Hi! I’m Kestrel. I read an unholy number of paranormal romance and romantasy books. Like, whole-book-in-a-night, “one more chapter” at 3 a.m., might-need-intervention levels of obsession. This is where I share the ones that hit hardest. The books that made me swoon, ache, laugh, or fall completely in love.

💀 Turn back, all ye who seek wholesome content. Thou. Hast. Been. Warned.

In addition to being a reader, I’m also an author.

My first romantasy novel will be released on Kindle Unlimited sometime in the next year. On occasion, I’ll also be sharing serialized short fiction here on Substack.

What You’ll Get

  • Unfiltered reviews of the books I loved.

  • My custom rating system for spice, plot, pacing, character development, and worldbuilding.

  • A safe space for readers who like their romance spicy, supernatural, and emotionally devastating in all the right ways.

  • Spicy, open-door stories about characters who demand to be written. If I don’t give them what they want, they haunt my sleep.

About Those Spicy Stories

I have an absurd number of story ideas. Some will end up in books. Others, I’m sharing as serials here on Substack, just for fun. I love writing strong, midlife heroines and the males who unravel for them.

I write open-door spice, but only once it’s earned. It has to serve the characters, maybe wreck you a little emotionally, or I’m not interested. If you’re not comfortable with explicit on page spice, these stories are not for you. Cover thine eyes.

How spicy? On my chili pepper scale my stories are a solid 4-5 🌶️.

Don’t say I didn’t tell you.

What I Love

Kinds of stories I love:

  • Alpha males with emotional depth (and maybe claws).

  • Heroines who don’t flinch from a fight—whether magical, political, or personal.

  • Slow burns, soulmate angst, and spicy scenes that make you pause and reread. I want all the chili peppers—but they better earn their heat.

  • Worldbuilding that feels lived-in and lush.

  • All flavors of supernatural chaos: vampires, fae, angels, demons, shifters, gods, monsters (the hot kind, obviously).

When I’m reading, I’m not looking for ways to tear a story apart—that’s not the point. I gravitate toward books that make me feel something. Ones that pull me in so deeply I want to live in that world, be the FMC, or fall headfirst for the MMC. At the end of the day, I always ask: Did this book make me forget my ordinary life for a little while? Did I enjoy living in this story?

What I Don’t Do

I don’t write negative reviews. If a book didn’t hit for me, I move on. I’d rather shout about the stories that left claw marks on my soul than spend time picking apart ones that weren’t my taste. Authors work hard, and just because something wasn’t for me doesn’t mean it won’t be your next five-star obsession.

Free For Everyone, But You Can Support the Chaos

This newsletter is (and always will be) free. I’m here to connect with other paranormal romance and romantasy readers who love morally gray men, emotionally devastating stories, and the occasional monster with a redemption arc.

If you’re enjoying the chaos, please consider sharing my posts so we can grow this little feral corner of the internet together.

Paid membership is optional, but it does help boost this newsletter on Substack’s “growing publications” chart and encourages me to get up to more mischief. If you want to support the madness, I appreciate it more than you know.

Spicy books. Supernatural drama. I read paranormal romance and romantasy like it’s my full-time job (it’s not).
